Elton John opens Tribeca festival with "The Union" (Reuters)

NEW YORK (Reuters) - tribute to his idol to play the piano, Leon Russell, Elton John has opened the Festival of Film of Tribeca Wednesday with a free outdoor first performance and film on the creation of the album, "The Union".

The film shows John and Russell reuniting having not spoken in 38 years and gives a look behind the scenes to writing and recording of the collaboration between John, lyricist of John Bernie Wireworms and Russell for the album which was released last year, made debut at no. 3 in the Billboard 200.

He blinks also return to the old images of musicians in the 1970s, from musicians to guest on "The Union", Brian Wilson and various sequences originally from Russell John, now 69, as the greatest player piano that influenced both never him and crying when Russell composed "in the hands of Angels" off "the Union".

John told Reuters on the red carpet that film was idea Crowe and his style was "uninvasive." You know, you will not notice him there after some time, he has the gift of type from appearing behind plants and stuff like that. ?

"The Union" is one of the 15 on the theme music for feature films showing at Tribeca. Accounts cinematics of Kings of Leon, singer rocker Ozzy Osbourne and South African Miriam Makeba will also screen.

Opening night marked a change for the festival, one of the most important of the United States, after these past years in which Tribeca features a first private lavish uptown with fiction films, as "Shrek Forever last year after."

This year more than 5,000 films were presented, resulting in 93 feature films, including 41 documentary and narrative feature films 52. The festivals participants will include Julia Roberts, Will Ferrell, Martin Scorsese, Orlando Bloom, Jeremy Piven and Ryan Phillippe.
