LOS ANGELES (Billboard) - Foo Fighters earned finally their first No. 1 album at the United States on Wednesday as their eighth studio album led to a field that also included strong debuts of Alison Krauss and Paul Simon.
The Group has sold 235,000 copies of "Light loss" the week has taken late Sunday, according to the Nielsen SoundScan tracking firm. It ranks as the second week of sale, hindered only by the launch of no. 2 of "in your honour" in 2005, which began with 311,000. Their last album studio, "Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace," debuted at # 3 in 2007 with 168 000.
After four weeks of non-consecutive No. 1, "Adele 21" slipped No. 2 with 93 000 copies. It's the same story in the United Kingdom, where the Foo Fighters put end to his reign of 11 weeks.
Arriving at no. 3 on the United States was "Aircraft Alison Krauss & Union Station paper," 83 000 copies of the sale. Krauss has gone once before (and sold more), with Robert Plant on their collaboration won a Grammy "Raising Sand" (No. 2 in 2007 off the coast of a 112,000 bow). Latin rock group Mana began at no. 5 with "drama y luz" (47 000), a sharp decline of their previous studio album "Amar Es Combatir" 2006 (No. 4, 87 000 units).
For the rest of the top 10, "Fatal woman" of Britney Spears fell four No. (43 000) 6, compilation of charity "Songs for Japan" held at no. 7 (37,000), "Rolling Papers of Wiz Khalifa" fell three no. 8 (37,000), "F.a a.m.e. Chris Brown" dropped three, no. 9 (35 000), and Mumford & sons "not sigh no more" abandoned two no. 10 (35,000).
Right outside the top 10 were three newcomers: debut of British singer Jessie set J, "who you Are" No. 11 (34 000); TV on the Radio "nine Types of light" No. 12 (32 000); and no. 13 (28 000) launches "Family Sign the atmosphere".
Overall sales totalled 6.3 million units, an increase of 8% from the previous week and 16% from the week of 2010 comparable sales. Sales of the album of the year to date be maintained at $ 90 million, down by 3% compared to the same total at this time last year.
