Hollywood stars in the Broadway Centre response (Reuters)

NEW YORK (Back Stage) - each year, the head of celebrities from Hollywood to Broadway where they receive much attention for their tour.

Tony Awards, presented on June 12, are the judge ultimate skills of any actor of theatre, famous or not, and many lesser-known artists are concerned that the value of the price decreases as the film stars continue to take their home.

Prestigious broadcast last year discouraged many actors in New York, including Hunter Foster, who started the Group Facebook Give Tony, and back to Broadway! in an effort to combat the effect of Tinseltown. With the group now almost 9 000 members, Foster hopes to restore the ceremony as a symbol of hope for the next generation of artists of the scene.

If the actors in the scene as his sister, Sutton Foster - appointed this year for his performance in "Anything goes" - will disappear for the future of Broadway if the Tony continues to focus on the stars of Hollywood is questionable. Many actors appearing on Broadway - including Al Pacino, a candidate this year for "The merchant of Venice" - begin their careers on the stage, but their mass appeal comes from their films.

"I worked my ass to get there where I am, so I understand that the fight," said Scarlett Johansson, who was one of the four actors in Hollywood to win a Tony in 2010 - BroadwayWorld.com last year. "If someone is cast because they are a name, but they are not good for employment, although, it is very frustrating."

Actors and experts agree, however, that celebrities are required for some producers to finance productions, and famous features creates more stable jobs for New York actors.

List of candidates this year does not have many big names of the Broadway season - including Chris Rock, Robin Williams, Ben Stiller and Daniel Radcliffe. David Sheward, editor in Chief of the new stadium and a Tony voter, blog on how the shortage of candidates of the famous may be a response by the Nominating Committee to the reaction of last year.

However, Charlotte St. Martin, Executive Director of the Broadway League, which presents the awards with the American Theatre Wing, said that there was no correlation between the response of the last year and year this.

"If you look at the shows, most of the people who have good reviews is designated," said Saint-Martin, who is also awards administration Committee, which oversees the nomination process. "People whose reviews were not as good for either the show or the individual, perhaps not.".

A star may be an economic necessity for a Broadway show, and Michael Riedel, columnist theater in New York Post and host of "Theatre Talk of the PBS", does not believe that take stars Hollywood jobs from New York actors. "If you did not have these celebrities, many of these shows would not produced," he said. "All these shows have people in them are not of movie stars and they all work."

CRUSADERS

A Tony represents the Holy Grail for a theatre actor and can significantly increase the career of an artist, while the film and television actors are already honored with awards like Oscars and Emmys. Recognized widely actors toeloop in and secured an appointment of Tony can be upsetting to some, said Garrett Eisler blog the Playgoer, there are a limited spots.

According to Eisler, stars led sales of Broadway tickets throughout history, but "" what has changed is the definition of who is a star." In the 1950s and 1960s, the names of ticketing were Robert Preston, Rex Harrison and Zero Mostel, who had some fame film but whose primary medium was the scene. "A Broadway star could really be a star," Eisler said, acknowledging that Patti LuPone is one of the few that fits this Bill today. "Now you may not be a star unless you're a star in Hollywood".

Internet democratises entertainment, and an artist of the scene will never receive the same audience size for a Broadway show, another actor will receive for a film or a television series.

"There was a change of generation," Eisler said, noting that the current generation of youth is the first to come of age with the Internet. "Certain stars can become household names without appearing on multiple platforms."

Winner of Tony and veteran of the stage New York Victoria Clark acknowledged his victory for "The light in the Piazza" in 2005 helped launch her career and she turned and a "known quantity". Her role as mother superior in "Sister Act this year, the," for which it is named, came to him in part because of his name and connections, as it did through his previous work.

"Could have been Jerry Zaks after anybody aged 45 to 80 for this part," she said, referring to the Director of the show. "There is a message to our administration: people who you supported when you began your career and to return to these people and give them a shot."

Celebrities coming to Broadway take work away from New York Theatre actors, according to Clark, but also said that the industry should not separate actors in film, television and stage categories. "It is our culture that separates us", she argued. "If we were actors in another country, we all would, without question."
