NEW YORK (Reuters) - NBC Universal said on Thursday veteran sports programming Executive Dick Ebersol has resigned from the company after a career of 40 years with NBC covering the Olympic Games and "Sunday Night Football" to "Saturday Night Live."
Ebersol, who was President of NBC Sports for 22 years, resigned, some five months after Comcast Corp. took control of NBC Universal.
NBC Universal Chief Executive Steve Burke described Ebersol as "an incredible talent" whose contributions to society are unmatched.
The company has appointed Mark Lazarus, currently President of NBC Sports cable group, as the new President of the NBC Sports Group.
