LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The British royal wedding has become one of the top 10 news stories of the 21st century, but has already been overshadowed by media coverage of the death of Osama bin Laden, according to a study published Thursday.
Less than a week after us President Barack Obama announced that US forces had killed the Chief of al-Qaeda in Pakistan, the history of bin Laden had accumulated more than 84 million citations in print and electronic worldsocial media and Internet sites.
The poll conducted by the global language monitor, said that the death of bin Laden was already the third largest global broadcast in the 21st century.
However, April 29, marriage of Prince William to Kate Middleton ranked 5 place with more than 63 million citations, around the world in advance of the media blitz surrounding the sudden death of Michael Jackson 2009 with approximately $ 56 million.
But the biggest story in the world since January 2000 remains the rise of China as an economic and political power, the global language monitor said.
The history of China has about 300 million citations to date, followed by the election of Obama to the U.S. Presidency with $ 123 million.
The Texas-based global language monitor (GLM) used an algorithm to track citations of the greatest features on the sites of media print and electronic world 750 000, and top of citations on the Internet, blogosphere, TwitterFacebook and other social media sites.
The top 10 news stories of the 21st century, as the GLM are;
